1. Establishing a Security Baseline for Your Home
Lock doors and windows
Sufficient landscape lighting 24/7
Video surveillance system – every home should have a video doorbell or video intercom
Use a burglar and fire alarm system that reports directly to a monitoring station and if in the Town of Palm Beach, simultaneously to the Police Department via their Direct Connect system
2. Mobility/Vehicle Security
When in motion (cars, bicycles, walking, etc.) risk for crime is increased and accidents, requiring improved attention and less phone use
Lock your cars and take the key fob with you
Criminals know that many luxury vehicles are unlocked and have their keys inside and confirm if the door mirrors and pointed out
3. Local Crime Information
• The Town of Palm Beach experiences very low levels of violent crime (robbery, assault, battery, etc.) as compared to neighboring areas.
• The Town also experiences low levels of property crime but losses per incident far exceed those of neighboring areas.
• We continue to enjoy a very safe and secure community as compared to the remainder of South Florida but increasing threats are challenging our law enforcement and security resources.
• The municipalities adjoining the Town of Palm Beach generally have higher crime rates for all types of crime (much higher in some instances) and it is prudent to take additional precautions when visiting those areas.
4. When You See Something, Say Something
911 for emergencies, in Palm Beach (561)838-5454 for suspicious activity,

5. Security While Traveling
Dress not to attract attention
Avoid using taxis waived down on the street outside of US, use companies recommended by upscale hotels
Keep your passport and chipped cards in a Faraday bag so chips cannot be scanned
Use a door alarm wedge for inside of hotel room doors when inside
Use a USB Data Blocker for charging cell phones on airplanes, airports or at public charging stations that will only charge and not access data to prevent Juice Jacking
7. Data and Identity Security
Use passwords and malware protection on phones and computers
Use unique passwords for each device and login, otherwise if your passwords are captured, they have all of your passwords
Use two factor authentication for important logins
Never open suspicious email attachments, examine the email closely as something is usually a little off, malware attachment is the method of most successful computer attacks, identity thefts and financial fraud
Any email address, phone number or caller ID can be spoofed
Question phone calls from persons saying they are from the government or financial institutions, get their name a confirmed phone number and call them back on the published/confirmed number if necessary to confirm legitimacy
